We shot this social media film for Knaresborough Town Council as a Christmas feature to encourage custom on the high street as the lockdown was easing. It was part of a communication strategy for the town. It was organically shared 265 times locally and hit it’s target of being viewed in the local community.
In many ways, this film did not obey any of the rules set out of social films. It’s un uncharacteristically long film for Facebook, but it maintained engagement throughout and got the message across. We worked with the brilliant Jennifer Howson and the Reverend Garry Hinchcliffe on the production, and the script was written in house.
Producing social media film needs to fulfil one basic requirement; relevancy. The reason this film was successful was not because of the quality of the script, which was high, but because of the fact it was tied to a location and to a community. To make your film successful you need to connect to your community.
If you have a business then you most likely use social media. You have the opportunity to reach a large audience, so getting the right company to make the right film for you will have a huge positive impact.

The social media film campaign above, was part of a Christmas campaign taking a funny look at the product in question, and emphasising it’s value to the customer – convenience in social situations.
The below video is an example of a product video with a full lighting rig to emphasise the beauty of the product.
This stage of the process can take some time. It involves looking at your objective and who your target audience will be. Really good advertising evokes an emotion. It shouldn’t seem like you’re selling a product at all.
How we approach this stage depends on you and your business. You might require a detailed storyboard, a visual comic strip of how the video or film will play out. Or we might take a camera, with an idea in mind and see how we go. It needs to speak to the needs of your business and that includes factors such as resources and budget.

The Power of Social Media Video Marketing - public health
Video and film can be a very effective way of changing public opinion on health-related issues.
We’ve been lucky enough to work with Yorkshire Cancer Research who took advantage of our social media video services and created a public health video about vaping. We went on to produce a series of films for them to be shown on No Smoking Day that would highlight the public health concern and the related issues it presents.
The social media version was watched many thousands of times and shared internationally within the space of a few days. The key to success was doing something relevant to the audience and releasing it at the right time.
